SALTANO - Investimento e Gestão (Investments and Management) - SGPS, Lda. was created.
- The SALVADOR CAETANO Foundation was created.
- Celebration of the company's 35th Anniversary. Several events were held all over the country.
- Creation of FOGECA - Gestão e Controlo, (Management Control) SA, a Caetano family holding, headed by Salvador Fernandes Caetano, the Group founder.




1982

Salvador Caetano (Évora), Lda. was set up.
- BAVIERA joined the Salvador Caetano Group.
- Creation of Lusilectra, Lda. and acquisition of shares in Maqtin, Lda. and Gilcar Norte, Lda.



1983

Group introduction in the civil construction area with the creation of COCIGA, SA.



1984

A PROTOCOL with LNETI was signed at the end of 1984. The main objective of this protocol was the technological development, which allowed industrial activity restructuring through modernisation, innovation research and quality.
- SALVADOR CAETANO (UK) LTD was set up.




1985

Launch of the first minibus Optimo I, marketed, by the Toyota Distributor in Great Britain (TGB).
- SIMOGA, SA, a real estate company was set up.


1986

Export of Buses to Spain started with a group of 20 units.
- Mr. Salvador Fernandes Caetano signed a protocol with YAZAKI CORPORATION. From that protocol resulted YAZAKI SALTANO DE PORTUGAL, Componentes Eléctricos para Automóveis, Lda. company (electrical components for automotive vehicles).


1987


The first bus bodies are exported to Finland.
- On 19th November, Salvador Caetano IMVT, SA effected a Public Offer in the amount of PTE 300.000.000 (20% of the equity capital), responding to the requirements of the capital market development in Portugal.

 

 

1988

First exports of CAETANO-MAN Buses to the German, Austrian and Benelux markets.
- On 15th September, SALVADOR CAETANO, IMVT, SA conducted its first bond issue in the amount of PTE 3,000 million.
- Creation of Rigor, Lda. (Consulting services and Human resources) and Lince, Lda. (Cleaning services).
- CIA, SA (Oporto Centre Project) joined the Group.


1989


Salvador Caetano (ESPAÑA), SA was set up.
- In accordance with European norm EN NP 29002, Gaia Division wins the certificate of recognition of Quality System. This was only the fifth certificate in Portugal and the first in the automobile sector.
 
1990

Production of COBUS (Buses for use at airports).
- Creation of Portianga, SA.


1991


New plant in Carregado is opened with a sandblasting and painting line.

 

1992


The Carregado plant starts Sales and After Sales for Industrial and Agricultural machinery.
- A new building - General Warehouse - for Toyota parts and Toyota Export Services was opened.

 

1993

In January, the Optimo Buses quality is recognised by Toyota Motor Corporation, which authorises the use of its logotype for the Optimo III model.
- The Vila Nova de Gaia Toyota Technical Centre, for specific training of the Toyota assistance network, was opened.
- July, celebration of vehicle number 200 000 at the Ovar Plant with the presence of the Portuguese Prime Minister.
- Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Toyota activity in Portugal.
- STEIA - SOCIEDADE TÉCNICA DE EQUIPAMENTOS E ACESSÓRIOS, SARL joins the Salvador Caetano Group.
- CABO VERDE MOTORS, SARL joins the Salvador Caetano Group.
- The Ovar Plant Training Centre is opened by the State Secretary of Employment and Professional Training.
- Implementation of ETAR - Waste Water Purification Equipment, in Ovar Plant.


1994


New premises at the Oliveira do Douro Toyota Assistance Centre are opened.
- Start of Toyota activity in CAPE-VERDE and GUINE-BISSAU through local companies that join the Salvador Caetano Group.

 

1995

Joint participation with NAW in the capital of the German company "CONTRAC" to reinforce sales of buses for airports.
- New premises for the Competition Department are opened and the Starlet and Carina E Trophies are created.
- Creation of four new associate companies operating in the Automotive Retail area:
SALVADOR CAETANO (ESPINHO), S.A.
SALVADOR CAETANO (CALDAS DA RAINHA), S.A.
UNIPARK - ASSISTÊNCIA E COMÉRCIO DE AUTOMÓVEIS, LDA.
SALVADOR CAETANO (VISEU), S.A.

- SALVADOR CAETANO (MOÇAMBIQUE) SARL. new factory premises are opened.



1996


Salvador Caetano, IMVT, SA 50th anniversary.
- Official opening of the new headoffice building on 2nd April with the presence of the Prime Minister.
- On 2nd October, Gaia Plant is certified by the NP EN ISO 9001 International Regulation.

 

1997


The "GREEN COMPANY" programme is created in keeping with the company's environmental policy.

 

1998


COACHBUILDERS LIMITED company, an industrial company plant located in England, is acquired.
- Cobus 3000, number 500, leaves the factory.
- Salvador Caetano Aluguer de Automóveis, SA (rent-a-car company) was set up.

 

1999


On 4th January, Salvador Caetano, IMVT, SA together with the Sonae Group developed projects related to the Automotive area.

- CarPlus, SA - Used car hypermarket.
- Guerin - rent-a-car (dois), Lda., which has agreements with NATIONAL CAR RENTAL - a worldwide rent a car leading company.
- Joint participation with Dentsu (a worldwide leading company in the marketing and publicity areas), resulting in the creation of Caetsu, SA in Portugal.
